Facing a wall of Levi’s jeans can feel a bit overwhelming. After all, there are a lot of styles and types available. At Coastal, we carry a huge selection of Levi’s for men. To help you choose the right pair for your body, work, and play, we’ve compiled a quick style and fit guide.
What’s with the Numbers?
Levi’s
® developed their numbering system to correspond to the rise of the waist (low and regular), seat fit, and leg opening (tapered, straight, and boot cut). Essentially the three-digit number will tell you all about the overall fit or look of that style of jeans. Once you find a number that works for you, it’s easy to stick with that style and fit, including slim, regular, and relaxed.
How Much will Shrink-to-Fit Shrink?
When buying a pair of Levi’s 501
® jeans, it’s important to pay attention to the label. Pre-washed jeans are already shrunk, but the Original Shrink-to-Fit
TM 501
® jeans will lose 1-inch in the waist and 1-inch in the legs after three washings in hot water. If you typically wear a 32x34 pair of pants, you’ll want to buy 33x35 shrink-to-fit.

The 501® may have been around since 1873, but Levi’s® has added some variations in the lineup – and we have them at Coastal. Choose from the Original Shrink-to-FitTM in several colors or the Original Fit Stretch Straight Leg Jeans for added fabric stretch while still fitting over your boots.
- Style and Fit: straight fit with an all-American style. 100% cotton with a button fly and 5-pocket design. Regular fit through the thigh with a straight leg opening. Shrink-to-fit jeans sit at the waist, while the others sit just below.

Levi’s 505®
Guys Who Take Charge
The 505 lineup was created for guys who like jeans that fit nice without all the fuss. These jeans, whether you try on a pair of Regular Fit or Regular Stretch are designed for comfort out in the field, on the job, or out on the town.
- Style and Fit: mid-rise fit with a straight leg and a zip fly, 5-pocket design, and contrast stitching for that true Levi’s look. Regular fit is 100% cotton, while the Stretch contains 1% elastane.

The 517 designation means boot cut jeans. Both the Regular Boot Cut and Mid Rise Regular Fit Boot Cut Indigo Flex are made for life in the country. The Indigo Flex offers some stretch with a polyester blend and a midrise waist.
- Style and Fit: these jeans are designed for boots with a relaxed seat, thigh, and knee. Features zip fly, slim fit, and a color that is resistant to showing stains.

Like a slim pair of bootcut jeans? The 527 lineup is for you. These jeans were designed to fit over cowboy boots but add a modern flair to any guy’s wardrobe. The Boot Cut Slim Cut offer some stretch with a 5% polyester and 1% elastane midweight denim, while the Slim Bootcut Low Rise Slim Fit keeps things tight and looks great with a dark blue wash with sanding and creases.
- Style and Fit: offer a slimmer fit throughout the thigh and leg opening with a lower rise.
