Inflation Busters: Household Cleaners

According to some estimates, the typical American household spends up to $50 every month on cleaning supplies that often contain harmful chemicals. Thankfully, you can create your own household cleaners and save a lot of money with this week’s Greta’s Goodies Inflation Busters.

Wood Floor Cleaner 


Cost to make: $0.20 cents

• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons 91% isopropyl alcohol
• 24 ounces water


Dish Soap 


(without the harmful sodium sulfites)
Cost to Make: $4.21



• ¼ cup water
• 1 cup Pure-Castile Soap
• 2 teaspoons vegetable glycerin
• 10 drops tea tree essential oil
  


Directions: Combine all the ingredients into a dish-soap bottle. Shake well before every use. Mark your container with a sharpie

Bathroom Cleaner 


Cost to Make: $4.86

• 1 cup water
• 1 cup 30% industrial-strength vinegar (available at Coastal)
• 1 cup of your homemade dish soap
  


Directions: Using Greta’s dish soap recipe, mix 1 cup of dish soap with the other ingredients into a spray bottle. Shake will before every use. Mark your bottle with a sharpie. 


Disinfecting Spray

(antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiseptic, and antimicrobial)

Cost to Make: $3.16

• 12 ounces 91% isopropyl alcohol
• ½ teaspoon hydrogen peroxide
• 15 drops lemon essential oil
• 15 drops lavender essential oil
• 30 drops tea tree essential oil

Directions: In a 16-ounce spray bottle, mix all of your ingredients. Shake well before every use. Mark your bottle with a sharpie.

Glass Cleaner 


Cost to Make: $0.10 cents

• 2 cups water
• 2 drops of your homemade dish soap
• 1 tablespoon 30% industrial-strength vinegar (available at Coastal)
• 1 tablespoon 91% isopropyl alcohol
  


Directions: Mix all of your ingredients into a spray bottle. Shake well before every use. Mark your bottle with a sharpie.
