5 Tips to Maximize Your DeWalt Power Tool Batteries

July 7, 2023

DeWalt batteries provide the power needed to get the biggest jobs done right. But even the toughest rechargeable batteries cannot keep running forever. Yes, you can recharge them over and over again, but eventually they’ll need to be replaced. The Coastal crew has some tips to help you get the most life possible out of your DeWalt power tool batteries.

Charge Your Batteries Often

Anytime you feel a power tool battery start to get sluggish, put it in the charger. Recharging before it has a chance to go completely dead can extend the life of the battery. Having several backup DeWalt batteries on hand allows you to start charging one battery and keep working with a freshly charged battery. A four-port simultaneous fast charger makes charging and working easy.

Charge Batteries at Least 2 Hours

Don’t take the battery off the charger before it’s had a chance to charge up significantly and reach a lower temperature. Taking a battery off the charger after just 30 minutes might give you enough juice to finish a job, but it can damage the battery long term. For best results, leave batteries in the charger for a full 8 hours. Again, having backup DeWalt batteries makes recharging and working a lot easier.

Keep Batteries Out of Extreme Temperatures

The battery charger should be kept out of direct sunlight or inside out of extreme cold conditions, if possible. Excessive heat (anything over 100º) and cold (anything below 40º) make charging nearly impossible. Additionally, it can damage a battery’s run time.

Leave Batteries in the Charger

Most power tool batteries left off the charger will naturally discharge over time. While some DeWalt batteries are built to maintain their charge for days or even weeks, they’re all  designed to go into a maintenance mode when left on a DeWalt charger. This means they can be left on the charger indefinitely for quick and easy use.

Keep Metal Away from Battery Terminals

If the battery terminals ever connect, it can severely damage the battery. This can also cause a fire. Keep keys, wires, coins, small tools, and other metal objects away from your rechargeable power tool batteries to avoid these issues.
